Special Olympics UAE
Special Olympics UAE is an internationally accredited non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering people with intellectual disabilities through sport. Established in 1990 and re-established as an independent association in 2017 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, it plays a vital role in driving inclusion across the UAE.
In 2019, the UAE made history as the first country in the MENA region to host the Special Olympics World Games, welcoming 7,500 athletes from 190 countries. Since then, the organisation has expanded significantly, engaging thousands of athletes through sport, health, and unified education programmes — creating lasting impact through inclusion, empowerment, and community.
